Shortlists announced for the 2024 Lane Anderson Award
The shortlists for the 2024 Lane Anderson Award were announced on September 26, 2024. The prize, supported by the Fitzhenry Family Foundation, honours the very best science writing in Canada today. The winners in both the adult and young reader categories are awarded $10,000 and are selected by independent juries comprised of experts in the fields of science, science writing, and literature. The winners of the 2024 Lane Anderson Award will be announced at a ceremony in Toronto. The finalists in the young reader category are listed below.
Bompa's Insect Expedition, written by David Suzuki with Tanya Lloyd Kyi, illustrated by Qin Leng (Greystone Kids)
Operation Cupcake: How Simple Machines Work, written and illustrated by Bambi Edlund (Kids Can Press)
Polar: Wildlife at the Ends of the Earth, written by L.E. Carmichael, illustrated by Byron Eggenschwiler (Kids Can Press)
Robert and Hilda Fitzhenry established the Fitzhenry Family Foundation in December 1987 as a private charitable foundation devoted to the promotion of human rights and education, animal welfare, culture, and the protection of the earth and its resources from overzealous development. Since its formation, the foundation has given out more than $1,000,000 in pursuit of these goals.
