Exclusion

The following activity uses Pink to introduce kindergarten students to the issue of exclusion. This picture book was written by Nan Gregory, illustrated by Luc Melanson and published by Groundwood Books.

Step #1: Ask the children what it feels like to be left out.

Step #2: Read the picture book to the children.

Step #3: Ask the children to identify the characters in the story.

Step #4: Ask the children to identify what the characters are feeling.

Step #5: Ask the children if they remember a time when the felt the same way.

Step #6: Ask the children to identify the problem in the story. How was it solved?

Step #7:Ask the children what they can do as a class to make sure no know feels left out.
