Workshops

Workshops focus on fiction and non-fiction writing exercises, including self-editing and peer-editing. For high-school students, Shelley also offers a workshop on essay writing, focussing on creating structure in essays as preparation for university writing assignments.

Biography

Shelley Tanaka has been editing and writing books for young people for more than thirty years. She has won the Information Book Award, the Silver Birch Award, the Mr. Christie's Book Award and the Science in Society Book Award, and has been a finalist for the Norma Fleck Award and many children's choice awards. In addition to writing her own non-fiction books, she is a highly acclaimed editor who has edited thirteen Governor General's award-winning titles. Over the years she has worked with many of the finest children's writers in the country, including Martha Brooks, Deb Ellis, Sarah Ellis, Glen Huser, Jean Little, Kevin Major, Pamela Porter and Tim Wynne-Jones. She is the fiction editor at Groundwood Books.
