With the publication of my first book over 10 years ago, and my presidency of the Ontario Black History Society, I have given scores of talks on: black history (overview), African-Canadian women, the underground railroad, black loyalists, Mary Ann Shadd, Harriet Tubman and historic personalities. I can speak on other topics by request. In addition to being an author, a historian and a parent, I have a teaching degree - my area with a focus on middle school. I have presented across Ontario, Canada and Internationally, and have been part of special institutes, conferences and workshops.

Biography

Was born and raised in Toronto, and has a teaching degree and a graduate degree in social work. She has been president of the Ontario Black History Society since 1993, and was instrumental in making the celebration of Black History Month a national event in Canada. A noted author, her books work to highlight the historical contributions and experiences of Black people in Canada. Her much-praised titles include biographies of Harriet Tubman and Mary Ann Shadd and Leading the Way: Black Women in Toronto. Her latest is The Kid’s Book of Black Canadian History. Sadlier lives and writes in Toronto.
