Readings
Every year, on the vast expanse of Africa’s Serengeti Plain, over two millions animals are forced to embark on the Great Migration – a desperate, danger-fraught, 800 kilometre struggle for survival. This year Jaspa must join this epic exodus, to fulfil a rite-of-passage known as the Journey, an undertaking made all the more extraordinary by the fact that Jaspa is a Giraffeses, a distant relative of giraffes, who could comfortably sit in the palm of your hand.
In a presentation that combines education and fun, children learn about the Serengeti, its geography and animals, and the World’s longest and largest land migration, whilst being entertained by excerpts from Jaspa’s Journey.
Special Equipment:
No, but I can make us of computer projection facilities if they are available.
Book Sales:
Rich will bring copies of his books to the readings for students to purchase and have autographed.
Other Presentations
In the past I have also been invited to speak to adult audiences, such as Optimists clubs. For these presentations I still talk about the Serengeti, the Great Migration and read from Jaspa’s Journey, but I focus more on my background as an environmental scientist and how I went about writing a book and getting it published.
Biography
Rich was born in Britain in 1969. After an extended university career that culminated in a PhD from Cambridge, he held a postdoctoral position at Waterloo, followed by a senior scientific post at an environmental research station in Germany. During a return visit to Waterloo, Rich met his wife, Sue. Moving back to Canada, he began writing his Jaspa’s Journey children’s novels, the first of which – The Great Migration – was published by DreamCatcher Publishing in March 2009.
Rich is represented by Lina Sion of Global Literary Management, New York.
