Readings
I cover a variety of topics: natural history, science, history, ecosystems – especially arctic and subarctic environments/species. I can speak about individual animals such as polar bears and wolves or about my experiences working with wildlife. I have a large library of images and can put together visual presentations that keep children interested and get them excited about the world around them. I am quite willing to work with teachers/librarians to target presentations to their needs.
Special Equipment:
LCD projector and screen.

Workshops
My workshops range from the very basic [brainstorming and word choice] to advanced [refining your prose, targeting an audience, selecting a voice]. They are applicable to all genres of writing and provide lots of great “jumping off points” for students and teachers to use after the workshop. I am quite willing to work with teachers/librarians to target presentations to their needs.
Special Equipment:
Whiteboard or chalkboard or paper equivalent. An LCD projector and screen would be excellent but not essential.
Book Sales:
Copies of books can be brought to be sold and autographed.

OTHER PRESENTATIONS:
I am available for and definitely enjoy keynote addresses, professional development sessions, and inspirational / motivational sessions with students. My talks in these areas focus on the importance of curiosity and communication, creativity and play, prioritizing and focus. I use a great deal of humour, energy and personal experience to give people new tools to attack problems, to build self-confidence, and to get excited about the opportunities that can be found in the most unexpected places. I have been the keynote speaker – addressing 2000 Grade 3 – 8 students – for the Literacy for Life conference in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, have given motivational talks at women’s retreats and professional development sessions for Saskatoon Public School Teachers, and have visited high schools to share the news that being unpopular in high school does not mean your life is over. I would be happy to supply references on request.
