Readings

I have illustrated a children's book called Katie of the Sonoran Desert / Katie del Desierto Sonorense, written by Kate Jackson (a Canadian residing in Washington state), which is a story about a Western Diamondback rattlesnake living in the Sonoran desert. I am happy to read as much or as little of the book as time allows. I can also talk about the research I did for the colour pencil illustrations in the book, which depicts the flora and fauna of the Sonoran Desert as well as the heroine, Katie the snake.

Book Sales:

Natalie can bring copies of her books to the readings for students to purchase and have autographed.

Biography

I have illustrated a children's book called Katie of the Sonoran Desert / Katie del Desierto Sonorense, using coloured pencils. Animals and nature remain my favourite subject matter for artwork, and I plan to illustrate more children's books in the future.

Katie of the Sonoran Desert / Katie del Desierto Sonorense won the silver medal in the "Multicultural N-F Juv-Teen-YA" category of the 2010 Independent Publisher Book Awards (IPPYs) and won the gold medal in the Spanish language book category in the 2010 Moonbeam Children's Book Awards.

I am graphic designer and musician by training, having graduated from the University of Toronto in 1987 with a Bachelor of Music degree, and George Brown College in 1990 with an Honours Design Diploma. I've run my own design business, Grinning Gecko Design, since 1994. Nowadays I keep busy with a variety of things including illustration, writing, graphic design and rug hooking. My husband and I live on an 86-acre hobby farm with eleven chickens, several thousand honeybees, two dogs, three cats and a leopard gecko.
