I love to meet with kids, to discuss where story ideas come from, to create a story together (usually absurd and wild), and to read from my books. I discuss writing and publishing, and always allow time for questions.

Biography

Born in Edmonton, Maureen was raised in Edmonton and Calgary. She loved writing as a child, but had nothing to say, so she went on to other things, first a Bachelor’s degree in History, then a Masters degree in Environmental Design (Environmental Science), both from the University of Calgary. She worked as a public involvement consultant and trained as a mediator, then discovered that she liked writing even better. She has a post-graduate Certificate of Creative Writing from Humber College.

The Nexus Ring was included in CCBC's 2008 Best Books for Kids & Teens and has been nominated for the 2009 Diamond Willow. Feather Brain is a 2008 OLA Best Bets for Children title and a 2009 Silver Birch Express Honour Book, and has been nominated for the 2010 Hackmatack, the 2010 Rocky Mountain, the 2010 Golden Eagle, and the 2010-2011 Red Cedar Readers Choice Awards. Feather Brain is also a CCBC Best Books for Kids & Teens 2009 Selection, and has received an Honourable Mention for the 2009 YA Sunburst Award (for Canadian Literature of the Fantastic).

Maureen lives in Calgary with her husband and two daughters.
