Readings

In addition to doing readings from each of my books, I bring along the original manuscript of Looking for Love on Mongo Tongo and let the children see the transition from the typewritten pages to the finished product, including how the original pencil sketches were transformed into the colour illustrations. I also show them the same book in eBook format, which everyone is eager to see. A lively Q & A session follows.

Book Sales:

Generally children get the most out of the session if they have read the books before my visit. Orders should be placed through Jenn Sallans at 1-888-571-2665 or jenns@mtprint.com, a month before they are needed. I'm happy to autograph the children's copies after the reading. A study sheet with discussion questions and suggested activities is available for Carried Away on Licorice Days upon request.

Biography

My first book for children, Carried Away on Licorice Days, was released in 2008 to enthusiastic reviews from The Globe and Mail and CM Magazine. It was nominated for the Canadian Library Association's 2009 Book of the Year for Children Award, the 2010/2011 Hackmatack Children's Choice Book Award, and the 2011 Rocky Mountain Book Award.

I also write the Babysitter Out of Control! series of Early Chapter books. There are three books in the series at present: Babysitter Out of Control! (2009), Looking for Love on Mongo Tongo (2010), and, The Improbable Party on Purple Plum Lane (2011). These high-interest adventures come with full-page colour illustrations, short chapters, and large print for children making the transition from picture books to chapter books.
