Readings
Award-winning Aboriginal author and residential school survivor Larry Loyie gives all readings with partner Constance Brissenden. This dynamic couple bring Aboriginal history to life by sharing Larry Loyie’s childhood in times of change. They refer to his four autobiographical books, When the Spirits Dance (set during the Second World War), As Long as the Rivers Flow (his last traditional summer before residential school), Goodbye Buffalo Bay (the sequel to As Long as the Rivers Flow; his last year in residential school and moving on at 13 to find his place again in his family and community) and The Moon Speaks Cree, A Winter Adventure (available fall 2012). Larry may also refer to the art that goes into many children’s books and how it was created by illustrator Heather D. Holmlund for The Gathering Tree, his fictional story of a family learning HIV awareness and prevention. He will give a talk on this bestselling title by request.
