Joyce talks about favourite books she fell in love with (especially fairy tales) and how they inspired her to write her own. She discusses the writing process, editing, the importance of research, and getting published. Joyce reads from her novel, Grace & The Ice Prince, and always saves time for questions and spirited discussions with students.

Teachers/librarians are encouraged to contact Joyce should they like her to skew her presentation to their current curriculum themes. Topics can include the writing process, voice, dialogue, character development, research and authenticity, grammar and the tribulations of being a Comma Queen.

Biography

J.L. (Joyce) was born in Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan and moved at an early age to Montreal, Quebec.
She earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts majoring in Graphic Design from Concordia University and entered the world of publish¬ing and advertising straight out of school. She went on to be an Art Director and eventually a Creative Director with Montreal advertising agencies. In 1993, she opened her own agency with husband, Ian. Joyce lives in an old Victorian house in the family friendly community of Montreal West with her husband, two daughters and two cats. Stories she told her eldest daughter when she was 5 was the inspiration for her first YA novel, Grace & The Ice Prince. She is currently working on the second novel in the series.
