Workshops

Ivan is available for a 4-day workshop, which includes the following:

Day 1
On their visit to Ivan’s Childhood Home Museum, students will see and hear the steps that inspired Ivan to develop Peggy of the Cove from legend to reality. A room-to-room tour of the home finishes at the Peggy Room, where Peggy spent time with Janet whenever she came to visit. It’s the favorite.

Another highlight is the treasure hunt along the trails that wind through woods and fields. The view after the hike up Fraser’s Hill is worth the exercise. It is exercise I assure you. Benches are placed where everyone may sit and enjoy lunch while being entertained and take in the beautiful view of St. Margaret’s Bay.

We will discuss ideas for their story before heading back down to the museum. Hopefully they will be inspired after my pep talk and learn the struggle I had in school and as a writer. An outline will be presented so they may begin writing their story.

Day 2 and 3
Students will begin writing their story or continue if they have already started. Help and ideas will be shared with those who need it.

Day 3 and 4
Upon completion of their story, students will begin painting a watercolour that visually captures a highlight of their story. They will be shown how easy it is to create masterpieces with watercolor before they begin.

Watercolour has been chosen because it’s cleaner, fast and less expensive. All materials will be provided and will cost each student $15.00. This includes a mat that will enhance the viewing of their work on open house night.

Biography

Began seriously painting in oils in 1981. Have been a storyteller over ten years. Began my writing career in 2004 with the song, Peggy of the Cove. Continued my writing journey as I developed Peggy of the Cove through a series of novels and children’s books. Converted my childhood home into a museum by request of tour guides. In Peggy’s story, she became friends with my grandmother, Janet.

We offer tours and tell how I developed Peggy of the Cove from legend to reality. You may take a tour of the museum at my website -- www.peggyofthecove.com.
