Readings

Henry Aubin can:

  1. Read from his novel, which deals with how the chivalrous king of the ancient African kingdom of Kush (also known as Nubia) took over Egypt in the 8th century BCE. This was one of the biggest military campaigns in Egypt’s history.
  2. Explain how he became interested in Kush after he tried to find stories about African heroes for his adopted African-Canadian son.
  3. Describe Kush’s kingdom’s remarkable yet little-known military, artistic and philosophical achievements. Kush was trying to save Egypt from invasion by the superpower of the day, the Assyrian Empire.

The central point of any meeting with students is to bring ancient history alive. The book is about a collision involving three great civilizations: The struggle of the Kushite David against the Assyrian Goliath on an Egyptian stage.
