Workshops
For younger children, Harry Endrulat runs a Max & Ruby writing workshop. Students work collaboratively with the author to create their own Max & Ruby story, while learning the basics of the writing and editing process. Students receive a poster publicizing the author's visit and a Max & Ruby colouring sheet. After the workshop, Harry takes the students' text and places it in designed pages with existing Max & Ruby illustrations. The end result is an original class story that can be shared with family, friends, and the rest of the school.
Harry Endrulat also runs interactive workshops that are tailored for older students and reflect curriculum requirements. He provides a thorough overview of the writing process. Topics include generating ideas, the "hook," main elements of story writing (introduction, crisis, climax, dénouement), plot, finessing prose, setting, character development, voice, editing, submitting a manuscript for publication, contracts, publicity, and more. For longer sessions, the students break into groups to generate their own ideas for stories (based on a special toy, stuffed animal, or unique artifact), create in-depth character descriptions, and map out detailed plot outlines. The children then proceed to write their own stories, using the process steps they learned earlier in the workshop. Handouts help the students organize their stories, while Harry provides direction and support.

Other Presentations
I am also available for keynote addresses and professional development day sessions for teachers and librarians. During a session, I take the audience through the creative writing process (generating ideas, the hook, research, character development, plot outline, voice/narration, introduction, crisis, climax, dénouement, editing, etc.). I also delve into the publishing process (having worked as an in-house editor for many years) and the editor's role in helping authors refine their stories. If requested, I am willing to create presentations that address the unique interests of the audience.
