Readings

We read one or both kids books: Alfie's Long Winter and/or The Ice Cream King. If she is available I really have great success reading with Christina Smith. With her experience in broadcasting and on the stage, Christina is wonderful at characters' voices and is immediately loved by every child who meets her. Our conversational style has drawn out some very shy kids. There is never a dull moment if Christina is in the room. We always print up some activity sheets too.

I also have a whimsical little cartoon presentation about the process of just getting your first book published. This went over huge at the Ontario Library Association Conference. Plus many samples and anecdotal stories (all funny or I would not include) from the world of commercial art. At 'Word on the Street' I did large drawings for the kids 'live' on an easel and a big newsprint pad with a fat marker, then handed them out to everyone. The parents thought this was very cool. We also sometimes bring music...

Biography

I have been writing stories and doing readings since 1995, when I first ventured into publishing, but have been a 'career' studio commercial artist most of my adult life. There is a very accurate cross-section of what I do on my website. Cartooning, story boards for commercial television and film production, free lance art direction and design.
