Readings
Filomena will read from her children’s picture book, My Mom Loves Me More Than Sushi, and discuss the illustrations. She will make connections to curriculum outcomes around culture and geography. She will also touch upon the themes of tolerance and celebrating differences. If the space permits and if it is deemed desirable, she can bring in ingredients used in the foods described in her book. (Example: rosewater) After the reading, questions from the students are encouraged.
Book Sales:
Copies of books can be brought to be sold and autographed.
Biography
Filomena Gomes has a passion for language, culture, writing and teaching. Growing up in a Portuguese home in Calgary, she then pursued her studies in French at Université Laval and became a French teacher. She has taught French immersion and French as a second language in elementary, junior and senior high school levels. She is married and has 3 young children.
