I will read an excerpt from the book that can be selected in order to be relevant to class activity as determined with the teacher, or simply to stimulate interest in the subject matter of the book.

The lead character Oriel has no idea why she is asked to become the leader of a team made up of unlikely heroes. She is now the Keeper of a blank book that protects the secrets it holds. In her hands alone, it reveals its secrets to help them find their way to save a very special child.

Oriel and her friends never would have guessed the kinds of powers they each possess. With no time to spare, she and her friends have to start on a dangerous and exciting quest through space and time in an adventure filled with riddles, danger and strange creatures.

If Oriel can’t solve the book’s clues in time, the life of her best friend hangs in the balance. This story contains themes about personal strength and fears, friendships and working collaboratively with others towards a common goal, and that no matter who we are, we can all make a significant difference in our world.

Workshops

Following a reading from the book, I will do a small workshop with students to help them identify their own special gifts, how they show them and how they can use them to make a difference in our world today. I discuss the different directions that we can share our gifts as children to really make a difference – with other humans, animals, or the environment.

Biography

Born December 20, 1958, in Victoria, BC, Canada, Elaine writes from an eclectic perspective drawn from her varied interests. As a singer, writer and performer, Elaine melds her artistic sensitivities with her scientific veterinary background. She brings a love magic, mystery and fantasy to her books.

By education,she is a veterinarian. Some of her work involves reiki for animals and humans. A singer, writer and performer, her artistic sensitivities are melded beautifully with the scientific background. Elaine is a student of philosophy and theology who also enjoys athletics and hands-on building and gardening projects. She combines both metaphysical and physical perspectives, bringing a love of all that is magic, whimsy and fantasy to her books.

Elaine believes that living in happiness is a life example for her two beautiful daughters. When asked how life is going, Elaine is fond of saying that several of her dreams are coming true all at once. Crystal Lights: Awaken the Power is one of those dreams.
