Biography

Eileen Kernaghan lives in New Westminster BC. She published her first short story, a boy’s adventure in the north woods, when she was eleven, and her second, twenty years later, in the science fiction magazine Galaxy. Since then her short stories and poems have appeared in many magazines and anthologies. Her eight historical fantasy novels reflect her lifelong fascination with history, ancient cultures and lost civilizations. Dance of the Snow Dragon is set in 18th century Bhutan and based on Tibetan Buddhist mythology. The Snow Queen, which won an Aurora Award for best Canadian speculative novel, is a retelling of the Hans Christian Andersen story. The Alchemist’s Daughter, which takes place in Elizabethan England a year before the Armada, was shortlisted for a Sheila Egoff Prize for Children’s Literature. Eileen’s latest young adult novel, Wild Talent: a novel of the supernatural, to be published in fall 2008, is set in London and Paris, 1888 – 1889.
