Readings

I usually introduce myself, read a little from one of my books, or short stories (no more than ten minutes). Then I tell them about what it was like when I was a child and there was no TV or computers, how we had to entertain ourselves with storytelling or reading books. I tell them how from a storyteller I decided to put my stories into print. I then ask the audience if they have any questions. This usually takes anywhere from 45 – 60 minutes, depending on the school's request. For the kindergarten class I have an action sing song poem for them to do, plus telling them the above.

Workshops

I have a short workshop. It consists of introducing three words and to have the class make a descriptive paragraph out of it. Each child could have a different descriptive paragraph, but the theme would be the same. This workshop would take about 30 minutes. Simple but effective.

Biography

Like winter approaching, Doreen moves into her fourth quarter of life. Wanting to follow her dream of immortalizing her stories in print, she has accomplished a great deal in her first few years of writing.

With a series of three published books “The Campfire Boys,” she has brought joy and excitement to numerous children, leaving them anxiously waiting for the next book in the series.

She continuously mines the stories from everyone she meets, old and young alike for her inspirations.

Doreen’s short stories and poems have appeared in numerous publications such as:
- Voices, an anthology of Lake Winnipeg Writer’s Group;
- The Outdoor Edge Magazine; “Dad’s Last Goose Hunt”
- Community Newspapers; Spectator and the Herald

Presenting her stories to a live audience is secondary only to writing them in the first place.
