Readings

My sessions can run from 45 minutes up to 60 minutes and I am flexible in what we include.

Typically a 60 minute interactive session could include the following: my background as a writer, a discussion about where ideas come from, a reading, 20 minutes for the students to write a short piece, and 20 minutes for the students to share their work. This works well in groups of about 20. If there are significantly more students in your classes, we could further discuss how to work this out or perhaps switch to the information, Q & A style session.

If your would rather do the information, Q & A style session (45-60 min), I would be happy to do that as instead. Some topics to choose from include: the parts of a story, bringing characters to life, and what makes a great beginning. I would also start the session with my background as a writer and a reading.

These sessions can also be done with lower elementary with an age appropriate reading and more of a focus on pictures helping to tell the story. I would be happy to visit with any grade level.

I am also happy to do shorter readings/ sessions.
