5. Teaching Kids the Writing Process
• What makes a good children's story? With PowerPoint slides and actual edits of the early stages of our books, kids learn about the writing, editing, illustrating and design process of producing a best-selling children's book
• Learn how we taught over 100 grade 5 children how to edit, helped them edit the final drafts of our book and then included their names as assistant editors on the back of Where Wolves Are Wild
• Suitable for Grades 3 - 7




6. Never Bug a Bear
• Using ‘Humphrey’ from our latest book, we teach children about preserving and protecting wild animal habitat
• In this workshop, we can also highlight the writing and illustrating process used to compose this beautifully illustrated book
• This workshop is suitable for K – 4

Biography

Carol McTavish has been a Canmore resident for over thirty-eight years. She has raised her family, taught Elementary and Junior High School, authored a bi-weekly newspaper column, written articles for magazines and spent countless hours hiking the paths, skiing the meadows and writing poems and stories that reflect her beloved mountain environment. Carol is the coauthor of In the Path of Great Bear, Magic in the Mountains and Where Wolves are Wild, three children’s books that show children the “magic” of living in the mountains. She also spends much of her time writing, doing book readings and workshops to children throughout B.C. and Alberta. Never Bug a Bear is Carol’s latest book that features a loveable tourist bug named Humphrey who teaches children about preserving and protecting wild animal habitat. As well as doing many book talks to school children in both Alta. and B.C., Carol is a proud member of the North Shore Bear Society in Vancouver, B.C.
