Readings
The readings are more akin to dramatic storytelling, performances tracing their lineage back to the wandering bards of the Middle Ages. The “readings” are an energetic recounting of a few of the 22 short stories found within the pages of Humpty Dumpty Was Pushed: an engaging performance that entertains audiences and which supports literacy initiatives going on in schools and libraries. The performance highlights the unique mixture of the absurd, the ridiculous, the grotesque, and the heart-warming which makes Humpty Dumpty Was Pushed perfectly suited for its target audience of 8-12 year olds. At its core, the “reading” through performing tales from the book sends a memorable message that is interwoven betwixt all the laughter that in the 21st century hope and love are powerful forces needing to be embraced by all.

Biography
Bruce Lord was born in London Ontario, the same year Canada celebrated its centennial. He is rumoured to have attended Expo’67. About twenty years later, he saw graffiti on a brick wall which boldly declared that “Humpty Dumpty Was Pushed.” He did not realize then how impactful that one moment would be. There before him on that brick wall was the title he would one day use for his first book.
Standing there in front of that wall back in what historians might call “the late ‘80s”, he did not know that he would become a storyteller, nor did he know nor could he imagine that he would perform for more than half a million students as a storyteller during the late ‘90s and early years of the 21st century before he finally became an author one cold Tuesday evening during the winter of ’08. He did know, however, standing there in front of that brick wall that he loved the idea of writing a book with that title to help bring a little joy into the world.
Bruce Lord has his PhD (ABD) in English Literature, an MA in English, and his Honours BA in English and Philosophy. This might have helped with some of his writing, though the hours of watching Twilight Zone and Monty Python most likely have helped it more. Mr. Lord’s dramatic storytelling is engaging, entertaining, and inspiring. As an author, sharing his own stories (a mixture of the comedic and strange with the philosophic and silly, sprinkled with just a dash of wisdom) is a dream come true. He will assure you that he is extremely grateful for that brick wall and the serendipitous effect it had on his life.
Not long after standing in front of that brick wall, foreshadowing his life as author-storyteller, Bruce Lord met Elisabeth Richards. This was indeed most fortunate, for he has for over twenty years now been writing, exploring, and enjoying this world with Dr. Richards, an exceptional educator and gifted writer who has the soul of a poet and the heart of an angel.
