Readings

All author presentations are tailored to meet the needs of the students, so as grade levels increase, discussions become more enriched. I present to students from JK/SK through to grade 8.

Each presentation begins with a reading of A Royal Little Pest or A Royal Little Pest: Mine! The reading is followed by a discussion about the message of the story and my inspiration for writing it. Elements of the story are also discussed (character, plot, setting). I use hardcopy manuscript to demonstrate how a story goes from rough draft to final copy. I use a PowerPoint presentation to display the pages of the book during the reading.
Each presentation concludes with a brief insight into the world of publishing. A question and answer period closes each presentation.

Biography

Born and raised in Montreal, Anita Reynolds MacArthur relocated to Toronto to pursue a career in educational publishing. She worked for 15 years editing other people’s words before deciding to write some words of her own. She currently resides in a Toronto suburb with her husband, three children, and the family dog Goober. Anita’s inspiration for writing children’s books comes from the everyday little challenges and miracles that occur in her family life.

Anita’s first book in the MacCheeky series of picture books, entitled A Royal Little Pest, is the recipient of the distinguished “Top 10 Great Books for Children 2010” award, as issued by the Canadian Toy-Testing Council. In this modern-day fairytale, A Royal Little Pest’s main character (Prince Hayden MacCheeky) is a real little prince who learns that playing with his royal siblings is way more fun than imitating and irritating them.

A Royal Little Pest: Mine! is Anita’s second book in the MacCheeky series. It was selected as a Read-Aloud picture book for Nelson Education Ltd.`s national Kindergarten program. As a result, it will make its way into classrooms across Canada this fall. A Royal Little Pest: Mine! tells the tale of how Prince Hayden MacCheeky learns that a little royal sharing leads to a lot of royal fun for everyone.

Anita’s third book in the same series, entitled A Royal Little Pest: The Best Pet, is written and illustrations are underway. It is expected to release in 2011.

Both picture books are available in Chapters, Indigo, and other books stores across Canada.
