Readings

Allan introduces his work by reading from his internationally award-winning novel, Chanda's Secrets, about the love, courage, and fears of a teenage girl facing the AIDS pandemic in Africa; and/or from its companion, Chanda's Wars (HarperCollins, 2008) set in the world of child soldiers; and/or from his acclaimed novel, Leslie's Journal, about a young woman at risk and struggling with teen date rape. He follows with an open-ended question and answer session about writing or the themes of the books. Allan is a trained teacher, and a past Drama Head at the Etobicoke School of the Arts. He is happy to create classes tailored to the needs of the specific class and teacher. For instance, he can also involve students in theatre roleplay games to improve their skills in writing character and dialogue, and to provide them with narrative ideas. He is open to your suggestions.
