TD Grade One Book Giveaway Program 2011
Since 2000, in cooperation with ministries of education, school boards and library organizations across Canada — the CCBC has given every Grade One student a free Canadian children’s book.
The book is to be taken home by each child to keep and to read with their parents. This far-reaching annual book giveaway program, which provides over 500,000 books to Grade One children across Canada, is fully funded by TD Bank Group.
This October, Grade One children nation-wide will take home Gifts, written by Jo Ellen Bogart, illustrated by Barbara Reid and published by Scholastic Canada.
Written in verse, this charming tale, featuring Barbara Reid’s wonderful Plasticine illustrations, is sure to delight young readers. Join Grandma as she visits far off places – from Australia to the Arctic and many sites between. She asks her granddaughter what gifts she would like her to bring back from her travels. The granddaughter’s answers are definitely not your typical souvenirs! A piece of the sky, an iceberg on a string, a roar from the jungle king…
The coordination of the TD Grade One Book Giveaway Program is done by the Canadian Children's Book Centre. School boards and ministries of education in all provinces have been contacted and have been asked to respond with their projected enrolment of Grade One students for the fall of 2011 by June 22, 2011. Please contact your school board to make sure that they have responded with the numbers for your school.
