The BC Achievement Foundation announced on March 1, 2010 that Time to Read: The BC Achievement Foundation Award for Early Literacy had been discontinued. Established in 2007 by the British Columbia Achievement Foundation, this children’s book award recognized a Canadian children's book appropriate for five-year-olds that were written and illustrated by Canadians. The author and illustrator of the chosen book each received $7,500. In addition, the award was supported by a four-year funding commitment from the BC Ministry of Education. Each year, the selected book was presented to the Ministry who, in turn, was be responsible for printing and distributing the books to each kindergarten student in BC at the beginning of the following school year. Canadian publishers were invited to submit age appropriate books for the award.
