This award of $4,500 was established in 1957 by Little, Brown, and Company (Canada) for a previously unpublished and original work (fiction or non-fiction) for children. Manuscripts were reviewed by a committee of judges chosen by Little, Brown and the award was given only when it met their standards. The last award was given in 1977 and it was discontinued in May 1981.
