In celebration of its 20th anniversary, Groundwood Books held this contest in order to find a new generation of authors to publish alongside their established children’s authors. The contest was open to Canadian residents who had not previously published a full-length work of fiction for children. The winner received a prize of $5000 plus a $5000 advance against royalties. Groundwood Books published the winning submission in Canada and the United States in the fall of 1998.
